Was thinking of upgrading the HDD of 1 of my machines.
I had the option of upgrading either the Macbook or the R60. after much deliberation. I decided to go with the original plan, which was to upgrade the Macbook, because it needs the space more, as i’m out and about, and it saves me from having the lug around an external HDD. hopefull it won’t hit the battery life too badly, but the power usage of the hitachi disks seem pretty conservative, which is a good thing.
Anyway, made 2 sets of backups of my important files. FIrst set was onto the old ext HDD, which is 20gb only, so i backed up the essentials only. as of this point in time, I am still cloning the original HDD with Super Duper, which is a backup utility for the apple computers.
Once the cloning is complete, i will proceed to swap the HDDs. if the com is still sluggish, i might do a fresh install of Leopard, and manually install all the programs, though that will really take up a lot of time.
but there’s no better time, after all, its the school holidays.
I am amazed at how fast the prices of tech drops, and how apple can manage to hold the same price point, while continually upgrading the specs of its products.
